The founder

Hi, I'm JP.

I build software in Whitehorse, Yukon. Before software I spent years around construction — quoting jobs, chasing invoices, watching small monthly costs quietly eat away at the profit. That nagging feeling when a $40/month charge has been running for two years and nobody can say why: that's what Erasr is built around.

The specific moment was last year. Mint was shutting down. Everyone I knew who'd relied on it for exactly this — "wait, what am I actually subscribed to?" — was getting funnelled toward Rocket Money, which is a fine product and entirely American. Wrong currency. Wrong cancellation playbook. Wants read-access to your bank account. For a Canadian, it's a tool that almost fits, which is somehow worse than no tool at all.

I went through six months of my own statements to see how bad it was for me personally. Two streaming services I'd forgotten. An app I'd "cancelled" that was still billing. A gym membership my partner was certain I'd ended in 2023. About $1,200 a year I was paying for things I didn't use and couldn't name. I am, for what it's worth, reasonably organized. If it was that bad for me, the gap was wide enough to drive a truck through.

The honest part

Erasr is built by one person, fast, with an AI pair — Claude — doing a lot of the implementation while I direct, decide, and own every call. I'm telling you that because you're about to consider forwarding your billing emails to something I made, and you deserve to know exactly how it gets made. The trade-off of solo-plus-AI is velocity with a smaller blast radius: no growth team optimizing your conversion funnel, no investor pressure to dark-pattern the cancel button, no roadmap held hostage to a quarterly number. The cancel button in Erasr is in the same place as the upgrade button. That's a decision, and it's mine.

The downside is also real and I won't pretend otherwise: one person is a bus factor of one. That's why the data lives in a managed Canadian Postgres (Supabase, Toronto), why account deletion is a genuine hard-delete you can trigger yourself in one tap, and why I'd rather you trust the architecture than trust me personally. Read the security page — it's written in plain language on purpose.

What I want Erasr to be

Small, honest, and Canadian. A tool that shows you the truth about your recurring spend, makes cancelling genuinely easy (including cancelling Erasr itself), and never sells you out. No ad pipeline. No data brokers. No vendor kickbacks. If it grows, it grows because it works — not because it out-funnels you. That's the whole thing.

If you want to reach me, it's hello@erasr.ca. A real human — me — reads it.
