Frequently asked
Questions, answered honestly
If your question isn't here, the hello@erasr.ca inbox is read by an actual human (me, JP).
What does Erasr do?
Erasr is an all-in-one money assistant for Canadians. Meet E' — the assistant. E' finds your recurring charges and helps you cancel what you don't want; tracks your cashflow, budgets, bills calendar, net worth, and savings goals; and answers plain-language questions about any of it.
E' shows you your own numbers and helps you think them through. It doesn't tell you what to do with your money — you decide.
How does Erasr find my subscriptions?
You forward billing emails (receipts, renewal notices, invoices) from your regular inbox to a private Erasr forwarding address — looks like u-xxxxxx@in.erasr.ca.
E' reads each email and pulls out the vendor, the amount, and how often it repeats. Repeated charges from the same vendor get grouped into a single subscription on your dashboard. No bank linking, no Gmail password, no seeing the rest of your inbox.
Is my email data safe?
Yes. Concretely:
- All data lives in Supabase Toronto (ca-central-1) — Canadian data residency.
- We only ever see the emails you choose to forward to us. We don't connect to Gmail. We don't see your inbox.
- To read an email, we send it (plus a little technical info) to Anthropic — the company behind the Claude AI. That's the only outside company involved, and we never share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- Delete your account from Settings → Delete account and everything tied to your account is removed in one go — we've checked that nothing gets left behind.
See the full privacy policy.
Why do I have to forward emails instead of giving Erasr my Gmail password?
We don't want your password. Three reasons:
- Less to trust us with. Forwarding shows you exactly what we see. You can stop it any time by deleting the filter — nothing to switch off in our app.
- We never get the keys to your whole inbox. Signing in with Google would let us see every email you've ever received. Forwarding means we only ever see the ones you send us.
- Works for any email provider. Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Fastmail, your university account — anything that supports auto-forward rules.
Trade-off: setup is one extra step (one filter in your inbox). We've made that step a 2-minute walk-through in the onboarding wizard.
What's the difference between Free and Plus?
- Free — Forwarding inbox, monthly total, count of subs, full list shown blurred. You can choose any four subscriptions to unblur in detail. Every signup also gets a 7-day Plus preview to try the full feature set. Free forever.
- Plus — $6.99 CAD/month or $69.99 CAD/year. Full unblurred list, in-app cancellation deep links for 100+ vendors, email templates for hard-to-cancel ones, renewal alerts, snooze.
- Premium — waitlist. Concierge human cancellation when we build it.

Can I ask E' questions in plain language?
Yes — that's built in. On your dashboard there's a small “Ask E'” surface (E' is the assistant inside Erasr). You can ask things like “how much did Netflix cost me this year?” or “which subscription is going up the most?” and E' answers from your own data, in plain language.
Two things E' deliberately doesn't do: it never gives financial advice (no “you should cancel this”, no “invest this elsewhere”), and it never sees anything outside what you've forwarded. It helps you look at your own data; it doesn't tell you what to do with your money.
Can Erasr search my inbox?
Only when you opt in, and only the money-adjacent emails you've forwarded. With inbox search turned on (an explicit toggle in Settings), you can ask E' things like “what was the contractor’s quote?” or “when does my gym contract end?” — Erasr finds the matching forwarded emails and summarizes them.
What stays out: anything that isn't about money (a filter sets aside newsletters, personal notes, and any non-money mail that lands in your forwards by accident). And you can turn the feature off any time — Erasr stops searching immediately and deletes the search index on your past emails within 30 days.
How does cancellation work?
On the Plus tier, every detected subscription has a Cancel button. We branch three ways based on the vendor:
- Easy (Netflix, Spotify, etc.) — tap-to-open the vendor's direct cancel URL.
- Medium / hard (cable, gym memberships) — instructions specific to the vendor "they make you call; here's the script."
- Manual-only (a few stubborn vendors) — a pre-written cancellation email you can copy or send through your default mail app.
48 hours later we ping you: "Did it work?" Your answer goes into the cancellation library so the next person has a smoother time.
Can Erasr cancel subscriptions for me automatically?
Not yet. That's the Premium tier on the roadmap — a human concierge who navigates the vendor's phone tree or chat for you while you do something else. We haven't built it yet because building it before we have enough Plus users to fund it would be a recipe for a sad shutdown announcement.
Premium is on the waitlist. The price will be modest; the goal is to make cancelling actually painless, not to nickel-and-dime.
Is Erasr available in the US?
Not yet. The cancellation library is tuned for Canada (Rogers, Bell, Telus, GoodLife, etc.), pricing is in CAD, and our data residency is Toronto. US support is on the roadmap but won't happen until the Canadian product is solid. If you're a US Canadian (or just patient), the waitlist is open to you.
How do I delete my account?
From your dashboard: Settings → Delete account. You'll be asked to retype your email to confirm — that's the only friction. It's deleted right away, and everything connected to you goes with it (forwarded emails, your subscriptions, cancellation history, feedback, notification settings). Nothing is just hidden — it's actually gone. No 30-day grace period unless you ask for one.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
It's gone within seconds. Our system is built so nothing about you gets left behind in some forgotten corner. We don't tuck your data away in a long-term archive. The privacy policy commits us to under 30 days for any leftover copy (like the daily backups, which clear themselves automatically).
How accurate is the subscription detection?
On our own test set of 50 real Canadian billing emails, when E' says an email is a bill, it's right every time. Catching every single bill is the harder part — we keep improving it with each round of edits.
Real-world accuracy depends on the vendor's email format. Streaming services and SaaS receipts: nearly perfect. Bank statements that bundle multiple charges into one PDF: harder — we're working on those.
You can flag any wrong detection from the sub detail page — we read every report.
What if Erasr detects something that isn't a subscription?
Tap the subscription on your dashboard, then "Flag this" at the bottom. Pick the reason (not a subscription, wrong vendor, wrong amount, etc.) and your report goes straight into our review queue. The row is hidden from your dashboard until we re-classify. Reports also feed into prompt improvements so the same mistake gets progressively rarer.
How do I cancel my Erasr Plus subscription?
It would be deeply ironic if our cancel flow were the hard one. From Settings → Manage subscription, one tap opens the Stripe customer portal where you can cancel immediately. Access continues through the end of your current billing period; no prorated refunds (per our terms), but no retention guilt-trips either. The cancel button is in the same place as the upgrade button — that's the standard we hold ourselves to.
When will mobile apps be available?
Early builds exist for iPhone and Android. App Store and Play Store launches are on the roadmap once we've polished the web app through closed beta. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when the early test version opens up.
How is Erasr different from Rocket Money?
- Built for Canada. Rocket Money is US-focused; we lead with Canadian vendors, CAD pricing, Canadian data residency, and a cancellation library tuned for Rogers/Bell/Telus.
- No bank linking required. Rocket Money asks for read access to your bank account via Plaid. We use the email-forwarding model. Lower trust ask, narrower data surface.
- Honest pricing. No "pay what's fair" bait-and-switch. $6.99 CAD/month or $69.99/year, flat.
- Independent. Erasr is built by one developer in Whitehorse. Decisions don't go through a growth team.
Who built this?
Hi — I'm JP. I build software in Whitehorse, Yukon. I started Erasr because I went through six months of bank statements and realised I was paying for two streaming services I'd forgotten about, one app I cancelled but kept getting charged for, and a gym membership my partner thought I'd cancelled three years ago. Total: ~$1,200 a year. I figured I probably wasn't alone. hello@erasr.ca gets a reply.
